What is the benefit of registration for FOTA service?

If you agree the terms of FOTA service, the device will be registered in FOTA server.
And the device will check new software(firmware) automatically and notify it to customers when new software version is released. Additionally, Samsung can send a push message when there are urgent issues or network operators request it. So you can keep your device up to date easily.
